Understand Why You Feel Stressed

Let’s talk a little bit about stress.

Do you ever feel stressed?
If you’re considered as a human from this planet, I am pretty damn sure that stress is a part of your everyday life.
That is one thing.

Because the other thing has to do with how you interpret stress, because research shows that stress goes hand in hand with meaning. In other words, whatever you have attached meaning to, will bring some – or more than just some – stress into your life.

I learned about this concept in the book “The Upside of Stress” from Kelly McGonigal.

In there the author says that we are most liable to feel like a victim of the stress in our lives when we forget the context the stress is unfolding in. The most meaningful challenges in our lives will come with a few dark nights.

Isn’t this a great way of looking at things?

Please, allow me repeat it because I love this phrase…

Kelly McGonigal says that the most meaningful challenges in our lives will come with a few dark nights. Which means that wherever we attach meaning to, stress is unavoidable.

Kelly McGonigal continues and explains that the biggest problem with trying to avoid stress
is how it changes the way we view our lives, and ourselves.

Anything in life that causes stress starts to look like a problem when actually is not!

For example if we experience stress at work, we think there’s something wrong with our job. No, it’s not!

And another example could be that if we experience stress in our marriage, we think there’s something wrong with our relationship. No, again!

And a last example could be this one, if we experience stress as parents, we think there’s something wrong with our parenting (or our kids). Again, this is wrong.

The fact that we approach all these concepts as problems, is because we have that false belief that we should never feel stress. This is simply not true.

Remember, please, wherever you have attached meaning, stress will appear.

And probably this the only take away of today’s episode.

Learn to see things, learn to see stress in the right context.

Meaning and stress, are going like this.

Ok? Don’t forget that…

Take care!

All my best,
