These Are The Fundamentals of Success!

Hello!

Would you like to know the fundamentals of success and peak performance?

Answer…

It is about knowing how to wear your socks…

Yeah! You heard me right! It is about knowing how to wear your socks.

This is not my idea of course but I learned it by reading the book “Wooden” by coach John Wooden and Steve Jamison.

In the words of the legendary coach we read inside the book…

“I believe in the basics: attention to, and perfection of, tiny details that might be commonly overlooked. They may seem trivial, perhaps even laughable to those who don’t understand, but they aren’t. They are fundamental to your progress in basketball, business, and life. They are – I love this phrase – the difference between champions and near champions. For example, at the first squad meeting each season, held two weeks before our first actual practice, I personally demonstrated how I wanted players to put on their socks each and every time: Carefully roll the socks down over the toes, ball of the foot, arch and around the heel, and then pull the sock up snug so there will be no wrinkles of any kind.”

Isn’t this great? I love Wooden’s approach.

Imagine… Imagine the best coach in the world. And the first thing that best coach was teaching his players was how to wear their socks. Why you may ask. Because if they didn’t know that simple thing they would probably end up with a blister which could lead to missing practices which eventually would certainly lead to something less than their best performance. Want to be at your best? Be a master of the fundamentals.

And I want to finish this post with a thought from the same book of course which is again on the fundamentals. It is something crucial I think especially nowadays and especially for young hustlers. So, back to the book…

“If you spend too much time learning the tricks of the trade, you may not learn the trade. If you’re working on finding a shortcut, the easy way, you’re not working hard enough on the fundamentals. You may get away with it for a spell, but there is no substitute for the basics. And the first basic is good, old-fashioned hard work.”

So the message of today’s video is simply this: Work hard on the fundamentals.

All my best,
Konstantinos Karypidis
