The Perfect Moment Syndrome

Today’s episode is about change.

If you want to change you have to get rid of what I call as the perfect moment syndrome. I don’t know about the validity of the name but I do know that there are countless humans out there who are living within the limitations of this terrible syndrome.

I first thought about it while reading Paul Arden’s super fantastic book “It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want to Be”.

So, what is the perfect moment syndrome?
It is the habit and delusion of waiting for the perfect situation to arise before you do something.
It is about waiting for the perfect day to do something you care about.
It is about waiting for the best opportunity before you take action.

– Waiting for the best partner to fall in love with.
– Waiting for the best company to hire you.
– Waiting for the perfect moment to arise before you speak your truth.
– Waiting for the perfect project to unfold your talents and competencies.
– Waiting for the perfect boss to inspire you in order to give your best.

It is about thinking that there is something, anything perfect you should be waiting for before you do what you desire and want to do.

For me it could be the perfect lighting for this video, the perfect camera, the perfect accent, the perfect script, the perfect haircut, the perfect look, the perfect skin, the perfect idea, the perfect teeth, the perfect shirt the perfect whatever.

But get this… If you want to change, realise that this perfect something does not exist.

Never had. Never will.

What you have in your hands right now, what is sitting on your desk right now, the job you are doing right now, is your perfect thing. Perfection lies in our ability to focus on what we have in our hands at any given moment and give our best doing it.

If you can’t give your best with what you have right now, you won’t ever be able to do so, because you are trained to wait for the perfect time. And one day you will look at your watch and the time will be 90 years old and you will be full of regrets about what you didn’t do while you were waiting the perfect time to do it. Being alive to me is the perfect moment to do anything that matters to you.

So do you want to change? Do you really want to change and provide value to the world?

Give your best, give your best self let’s say, with what you have right now in your life as if this is the only thing you will ever have.

That’s the concept.

That’s the strategy.

Take care!

All my best,
Konstantinos Karypidis
